Birthday Countdown

I can't believe it but Harper will be 2 this coming Wednesday!  Time has just flown by these past two years (as usual)!  I have been talking to her a lot about her birthday to try and get her ready for it.  We talk about the fact that she is one right now but on Wednesday she will be two.  She seems to understand that she will be two, but I thought it would be fun to make a countdown.  She enjoyed counting down to Christmas so much I figured we should do something for her birthday.  Here is what I came up with:

It is only a week countdown....I didn't really want to make more cupcakes then 7 but I suppose you could make as many as you want!  I used card stock to make them sturdy!

We count the cupcakes a few times a day, it is great for counting practice!!

We keep talking about what happens when we make it to the top, we say, "Happy Birthday Harper"!!

This morning she took off the first cupcake....6 more days!

She thought it was pretty exciting...so close to being two!!!

What kinds of things do you do to countdown to a big event???

Does anyone else have a kid who loves wearing over-sized shoes?  Lol....she loves to sit by the door, try on shoes and then walk around the house in them.  It is pretty funny what little ones find entertaining!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to be back soon with another fun craft.  I have a few ideas I've been playing around with!

Valentine's Day Garland Part 2

Have you all started decorating for Valentine's Day yet?  My husband thinks it is too early, he said you don't start decorating until February.  That would only give you 14 days to display your Valentine decorations...that just doesn't work for me.  I think each holiday should be decorated for at least a month, so I started mid January.  St. Patty's Day will be up as soon as my Valentine stuff comes down!  Anyways, I really don't have much for Valentine's Day so I set out to create some inexpensive but cute decorations.  This led me to my more adult version of a banner.  Harper LOVES her foam heart banner, but I wanted something a little more grown up.  This is what I came up with:

I had some burlap left over from my crafting this fall so I just cut 4 triangles out of it.  Then, I painted each triangle white.  When that dried, I grabbed my stencils (which I just got from Hobby Lobby for $2.99 on sale) and traced the word "love" out.  I didn't have a stencil for the heart so that is free hand.  Finally, I turned over the triangles and attached a piece of twine with hot glue on the back.  Be careful when you turn them over to order them the opposite of what you want to see.  I first laid them down with the L first and after I had them hot glued I flipped it to see my final product...it was backwards...grr!  So I cut the twine and did it again!  Once the twine was secure by the hot glue, I cut out a small piece of burlap for the back of each triangle to cover the twine.  I wanted to make sure it was secure and wouldn't come apart.  Nobody can see the extra burlap I laid over my banner in the back but I know it is nice and sturdy!  There you go, really cute and very cheap to make!

Here is a picture of my parent's full mantel.  Ready to go for Valentine's Day!

Isn't this super cute!?  I found the printable right here:  Love From The Oven  A really cute blog to check out, plus the printable was free.  Then, I went to T.J. Maxx and got a cute but inexpensive frame!  It works really well with the Valentine's Day mantel!

Yesterday was a snow day here!  Harper enjoyed every minute and so did we!

A brownie for breakfast...bad mom or the best mom ever?!!  haha!  It was a snow day we had to enjoy it the right way!

Our VERY sweet neighbors gave Harper two huge tubs and a box full of Thomas train tracks and a ton of trains.  She has enjoyed every minute playing with her new trains!

Thanks for stopping by, tomorrow I will be back with something fun!  Stay warm!!

A Valentine's Day Garland

I love holidays, especially decorating for them!  I'm not lacking Halloween or Christmas decorations, but I definitely don't have many St. Patrick's Day or Valentine's Day decorations.  I've been trying to find ways to decorate that are easy and affordable.  Who doesn't love easy and cheap?!

I made a really cute gingerbread garland to put above Harper's crib for Christmas.  She decorated the gingerbread's with glitter glue, and I punched holes and in the heads and threaded yarn through each one.

Then, I went to Michaels and found a pack of foam hearts.  They were only a few dollars!  We got busy again with the glitter glue.  She loves using it and I bought a pack from the Dollar Tree so it was really affordable!  Here is the end result:

Pay no attention to the dust on her crib, haha!

There you go...simple, cute, and she LOVES pointing to it when she gets in and out of her crib!  I'm hoping she will love decorating just as much as me!  Thanks for stopping by!

An update on life...

As usual life is moving at a fast pace and won't slow down!  We have been busy but enjoying almost every minute of this crazy life!  Here is a random picture update...

One Wednesday while at home with Harper I walked into the living room to this.  She was playing so happily with her Duplos and stuffed animals.  It was so sweet and I love watching her play!  She has such a fun imagination!

The same day I had an eye appointment and when we got home someone wanted to play with my glasses!  What a little ham!

She has also really gotten into dress up clothes.  She loves to walk around in her plastic heels!

Notice the Elmo socks she is sporting with these cute heels?!

My dad, "Papa" and I took her to her first movie on Friday night.  We saw Frozen!

Well we saw the first 40 minutes, and then she was ready to go!  This child won't sit still for long at all.  She went from my lap, to Papa's lap, to squeezing her whole body to get in between the seats in front of us.  Then, the LOUD crying started and it was time to head out.  I was really bummed out because what I saw was really cute, I guess I will have to wait for DVD!

Yesterday we spent the day at the Pittsburgh Children's Museum with our friends!  It was such a fun and relaxing day!

Sitting inside a gigantic tire with her Gaga!

Really Mom?  You can't possibly want me to sit still here for a picture....come on!

She loved a car they had.  It was one of her favorite things!

The water floor was her absolute favorite thing!  It is my favorite part of the museum, water is everywhere!  We took her flip flops and a change of clothes.  She loved playing in the water and didn't seem to mind her wet jeans (the thought of wet jeans makes me cringe)!

As long as she is keeping busy, she is happy!

It has been such a great few weeks!  Of course there has been plenty of fussy moments, lots of head shaking, and no ways.  The good moments definitely outweigh the bad moments and I'm so thankful for my funny, sweet, sassy little girl!

Come on back tomorrow for a cute and easy Valentine's Day decoration!  Hope to see you then and thanks for stopping by!

Hair Bow Holder Part 2

Yes I am still alive, I have just been really bad about keeping my blog updated the last few months.  I'm sorry!  I would say I will get better but I don't want to make a promise I'm not sure I can keep.  I will do my best!  I have spent the first week of the New Year really relaxing, enjoying my family, and doing the usual housework.

I have made it my goal in this New Year to really become more organized.  I'm not going to say it will keep up all year, but I sure hope it does!!  I started my goal off on the right foot by buying myself a new planner.  I got it on sale at Barnes and Nobel for $5.00!  It is just like my planner from last year (which I loved) so that was pretty sweet!  Plus, I must say there is something about a new planner that just screams ORGANIZATION makes me HAPPY!  I have always been such the last minute type, seriously last minute. This year things are going to change!  I have spent this first week really keeping up with my daily clutter, and getting a handle on my organization.  It feels good and like I said, I sure hope I can keep up with it!  I don't want to be Last Minute Leslie forever!

Anyways, boy has it been COLD here!  I'm talking they actually cancel school cold.  You have to understand something about Erie schools.  They NEVER and I mean NEVER cancel school.  When I was growing up I'm pretty sure I could count on one hand the number of snow days we had.  It is craziness!  Well, when talks of this storm and mainly how cold it would be started I thought there might just be a snow day.  Everyone doubted it but I thought how can kids walk to school in negative temperatures?!  Sure enough, we get an announcement in the middle of the day on Monday (while I was subbing) that there would be no school on Tuesday.  We actually had a snow day!!  I was so thankful because I wouldn't want anyone to have been out (especially little ones) in that cold.

I spent my day off Tuesday crafting.  Harper has a few bow holders but she has so many bows I needed to make her just one more.  It was such an easy holder to make and I'm absolutely LOVING the way it turned out!  I bought a large letter H from Hobby Lobby and painted it pale pink (I have already decided when we move to our new house her room will be white, light pink, and gray so everything I make from now on is in that color scheme).

Hard to tell that it is pale pink from the pic.

Then, I hot glued some white ribbon on the back top so we could hang it.  Next, I glued two strips of white ribbon coming down from each side of the bottom.  Finally, I wanted to add a little something special to it.  I made these fabric rosettes to decorate the H with.  I absolutely love how this turned out and it will be so pretty in her future bedroom (and doesn't look to shabby in her current one either).

Before we decorated it with bows.

The final product!  Love it!

Up close on the H

Well, it sure does feel good to be back and actually sharing something I have been productive with!  Maybe this organized Leslie will be here to stay!  :) We can keep our fingers crossed!

Today I'm thankful for my wonderful new planner and a snow day which allowed me to be productive!

I had to include these pics from about a month ago.  There was so much snow Harper could have got lost in it!  I thought these would be appropriate considering the weather lately!  Happy Thursday!  Thanks for stopping by!
